Ayeka Progress

I finally finished my Ayeka costume! It's the third one I have made and actually one of my dream costumes. It's her Jurai costume from the ending of Tenchi Universe.


This costume gave me it's fair share of headaches! The sewing itself was fine but I had never made armor before and I was also trying a new technique for the crown. The armor is made out of plastic sheeting while the crown is bits of wood, foamie and fabric. It attaches with spirit gum to the forehead and is MUCH lighter than my crown from the other costumes.

The fabric parts of the costume are all stretch sateen. The skirt and two "apron" parts are lined and the duel tops are french seams. ((Yes, I made two separate tops. No cheating here!)) Except for the skirt, all the patterns were drafted by me since I had made kimono tops so many times, it was kind of second nature at this point.

I also made a new wig since my old one had gotten kind of ratty. OH yea! I also have red contacts for this one! I wanted to complete look so decided to fork over the money for it; they're even in my prescription!


Over all, I am satisfied with the costume. I will be wearing it this weekend to MetroCon 2011!
